Forcepoint sought to solidify its standing as one of the world’s leading authorities on cyber protection – covering both its human and tech-focused programs, services and products – via thought leadership-positioned content as the best way to showcase their esteemed position in their industry during National Cyber Security Awareness Month.

Challenge

  • Company sought to solidify its standing as one of the world’s leading authorities on cyber protection – covering both its human and tech-focused programs, services and products – via thought leadership-positioned content
  • With National Cyber Security Awareness Month approaching in October, the company wanted to leverage the event to raise awareness about a series of relevant, timely and highly impactful topics

Journey

  • Content development team carefully considered the best way to showcase Forcepoint’s esteemed position in its industry during National Cyber Security Awareness Month, and concluded that a blog series would effectively support this goal
  • Conducted initial research to assess individual subject areas to address in the series, and developed abstracts for several – including ransomware, which was arguably the most newsworthy cyber threat topic at the time
  • To validate the impact of ransomware, the team conducted additional research to unveil the FBI’s estimates that ransomware extortion losses were expected to total $1 billion for the year

Solution

  • Client determined relevant SMEs to interview for blog series content development as a series that posted during National Cyber Security Awareness Month
  • Collaborated with the client to write the blog series and then promote final posts

Implementation

  • Participated in extensive conversations with client SMEs, including Principal Security Analyst Carl Leonard
  • Collaborated with Mr. Leonard to lend insights about the three main forms of ransomware – scareware, lockers and crypto-ransomware – and discussed the benefits of a number of proven responses to ransomware threats
  • Combined the research and SME conversations to write a ransomware-focused blog and the rest of the National Cyber Security Awareness Month series, with client SMEs and points-of-contact offering feedback

Results

  • Client published Ransomware blog as part of the month-long series
  • Promoted the blog through social media and other channels led to continuing public conversations about ransomware and other key cyber security topics, further elevating the company’s standing as a respected leader in its industry
